DEPRESSION THERAPY

Have Sadness And Despair Begun To Impact Your Life, Career, And Relationships?

Do you have thoughts such as “I feel deeply unhappy, yet I have no reason to be”?

Have you found yourself withdrawing from social activities and relationships?

Do you wake up feeling exhausted and find that everything you do takes tremendous effort and energy?

Depression slowly robs you of your joy, motivation, and ability to engage in life. When you wake up in the morning, you may find yourself exhausted and dreading all the things you must do. Maybe you wish you could simply go back to sleep and have everyone just leave you alone. Concentrating on work feels impossible and getting even the simplest things done during the day feels impossible. Each day feels like it’s being lived on autopilot, as if you’re doing the bare minimum to get by. For the first time, you may find yourself considering depression therapy.

Depression Can Lead To Isolation From Your Loved Ones And Your Social Life

Perhaps you find it exhausting to be with friends and family and have started withdrawing more and more. People might invite you out, but you don’t have the physical or emotional energy to be around others. Instead, you’d probably rather curl up and sleep the day away.

When loved ones reach out and express concern, it makes you feel guiltier for not being able to just “get over it.” You might feel grouchier and more irritable than usual—you’re on a short fuse with everyone around you and it’s starting to affect your relationships. Although people might think you’re just angry, what they don’t realize is how depressed you are. It’s like no one understands how you feel, and this just adds to the burden of your depression.

If you feel unable to turn off your negative thoughts or break out of your low mood, we encourage you not to lose hope. At Sequoia Counseling Group, our therapists specialize in helping people overcome depression symptoms, take back their lives, and move joyfully and confidently into the future. We believe that we can help you do the same.

Depression Is One Of The Most Common Mental Health Issues In The World

Depression is sometimes called the “common cold” in the mental health field and is one of the most frequent mental health issues in the United States. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, an estimated 21 million adults suffer from depression.* This is approximately 8.3 percent of the U.S. adult population or 1 out of 12 adults. For adolescents, this number is even higher, with 20 percent suffering from depression annually.

Put simply, you are not the only one feeling this way. Millions of people are struggling with depression, too. Unfortunately, we live in a culture where people are often taught to get through emotional pain by themselves. This causes many people to bottle up their pain and suffer in silence. As a result, few people realize just how many of their coworkers, friends, and family members are dealing with depression.

If you wish you had someone that you could talk to about your depression, we would be honored to fulfill that role. Depression thrives in isolation, but it becomes easier to bear in the presence of one who’s trustworthy, compassionate, and knowledgeable about mental health issues.

Depression Therapy Can Breathe New Hope Into Your Life

If you feel that you are suffering from depression, even if it’s currently mild, it is important to reach out for help. If left untreated, depression can significantly impact your life including your physical health, social relationships, career, and emotional well-being. But when it’s treated with evidence-based approaches and compassionate care, a more joyful and hopeful life becomes a real possibility.

At Sequoia Counseling Group, our therapists are trained and equipped to help you improve your mood, boost your confidence, and manage your depression symptoms more effectively. Some of our main goals are to help you:

  • Feel more like your old self.

  • Reduce and control negative thinking.

  • Improve sleep and feel more energized in the morning.

  • Increase exercise and healthier eating habits.

  • Feel more connected to those important to you.

We use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and a wide range of other evidence-based treatment methods to help you achieve these aims. Our approach is deeply holistic, looking at how improving every area of your life can make it easier to navigate depression.

What Does Depression Treatment Look like?

During your first session with your therapist, they will ask a series of questions to gain a deeper understanding of how depression impacts you and the goals you have for therapy. Once you and your counselor have a detailed knowledge of your symptoms and what you want to achieve, you will collaboratively develop a plan to tackle your depression.

Our counselors can help you manage depression in several key ways. First, they can help you clarify what life issues and challenges are contributing to your depression and what is solvable. Second, many people suffering from depression have gotten into thinking traps called cognitive distortions that significantly worsen negative feelings and a sense of hopelessness. Our counselors help you identify these cognitive traps and learn how to change them. Third, we can help you explore your social life and learn how different relationships are influencing your depression.

Finally, we are confident that we can help you gain a newfound sense of purpose in your life. Our Clinical Director, Dr. Philip Gnilka, spent over a decade as a professor in the counseling field, where he conducted extensive research and presentations in psychotherapy. Dr. Philip and the rest of our staff have years of experience treating depression, and we believe we can give you the tools and skills to get you back to a place of fulfillment and satisfaction.

You May Have Some Concerns About Depression Therapy…

Do I have to have medication to help treat my depression?

In some cases, clients want to try counseling first before starting medication, while others want to start both at the same time. Here at Sequoia Counseling Group, we will help you work through the decision process for what works best for you. We have relationships with providers in Las Vegas and Nevada that we can refer you to for medication consultations.

How do I know if I need therapy for depression?

Depression is very common and can be very debilitating for many individuals. We suggest you review the above page and pay attention to the symptoms noted above. If you feel you have some of these, it might be important to see a counselor for a more detailed assessment. A counselor can help you better assess the severity for you and give you a fuller picture of what to do.

How will I know if counseling is effective?

A key pillar of our approach is using the most recent research and applying it in sessions. Sequoia Counseling Group is on the forefront in mental health treatment, making us unique from many other counseling practices in the Las Vegas area. Not only are we well versed in empirically validated treatments such as Cognitive Behavior Therapy, but we also use a state-of-the-art approach called Feedback Informed Treatment (FIT). Everyone in our practice has access to a software program that uses advanced behavior algorithms to help track your progress.
